Hello World!

Welcome to JohnFrankosky dot com, my personal web site.

My newest passion is creating websites on the internet. I have a portfolio page of some of the websites I have designed and developed at my consulting site at www.OregonWebDev.com. My goal is to create websites for local small and medium sized business. This has been a fun experience and I never get board as there is so much to learn in web development and design. I've become proficient in WordPress, HTML and CSS. I'm currently learning PHP and JavaScript, and I've improved my photo, video and audio editing skills. I have developed sites using WordPress, created WordPress child themes, Artisteer, XSite Pro (which this site was created with), and plain old HTML and CSS coding. I've made quite a few modifications to PHP scripts and implemted many widget and JavaScript scripts.

It's another beautiful day in Portland, Oregon. Here is the wonderful city I live in:

I also own an Amazon Kindle that currently has 184 books on it (most are free downloads from Amazon). This is the greatest device since sliced bread! The only downfalls are it does not display large graphical pictures very well (hard to see as they are compressed), some books are not formated very well, the high cost, and lastly not all books are formated for the kindle (I still have to buy paper). Even though the cost is high (currently $259) it is worth it to have a large collection of books with me any time I want where ever I am. Update: I now have over a thousand books for my Kindle. Most are free downloads from Amazon. My favorite topics are web development and design, country living, cooking and food, and science fiction. Amazon has apps that allow me to read my books on my Kindle, my computers, and my Xoom tablet. I don't think I've purchased a physical book in many months. I tend to only buy books that will go on my Kindle or in PDF format. Technology is great!

I recently subcribed to NetFlix under their $8.99 monthly plan and get to have one DVD sent to me at a time and watch tons of movies on my computer. This is a great service and I highly recommend it. I also purchased a Roku device to hook to my TV to download and watch movies from NetFlix, videos from YouTube and other sources. I'll write a review after I receive it and hook it up.

4/8/2010: Update on my Roku. I love the Roku device. I was wrong when I mentioned you can watch YouTube videos. Not so. I hope they add this service in the future. I have a standard 4:3 TV and the resolution is excellent. It is easy to set up and use. I rated it four stars out of five because it lacks YouTube. But, I highly recommend it. Buy one.
